Types of popular local servers

   A local server allows web developers to realize the web-site on their computer without access to the Internet. The need to use them is constantly increasing, especially when developing dynamic sites in PHP.

   The most popular local servers to date are Open Server, Denwer, Winginx, XAMPP.

Open Server - a platform with a wide range of server software with powerful capabilities.

Denwer - includes a set of programs - Apache, My SQL, PHP. You can fill in any site designer - Drupal, Joomla, WordPress and others.

Winginx - is a local server that benefits from: simplicity, speed, and versatility; the ability to create tasks and time tracking; testing sites, their local launch; Easy component upgrade.

XAMPP - is a distribution of Apache, which includes PHP, Perl and MySQL database, MarianDB.

  Installing Open Server does not take much time.

   To install Denwer, you need to go to the official web-site and start downloading. Since the package includes the necessary basic programs, so you do not need to configure them yourself. After downloading, you need to unzip the file. You will see an instruction to follow. After that, you need to select the directory in which the program will be installed. Then press "Yes" and the Enter key.

   After successfully carrying out the previous actions, the program will offer modes of operation. A virtual disk will be created:

  • when booting the OS and shutting off after it is completed;
  • when you run the server itself.

  Select the desired option (recommended first) and press Enter. To verify the successful completion of the installation, open and run the program.

   To download Winginx, go to the official site and click "Download Now".

   By analogy, follow the instructions that appear. When selecting a folder, you must avoid spaces, non-latin characters, since the program may refuse to launch from such a folder. The installation takes approximately 100 MB. After a successful launch in the browser, you must enter the address: http: //localhost/.

   To install XAMPP, go to the download site, select the version you want and click "Download". The downloaded file must be transferred to the appropriate drive on the PC. Next, we unpack the file by clicking on it LKM. Go to the "xampp" folder, press "xampp-control", "Launch" and choose the installation language.

   So, thanks to the presence of a local server on a personal computer, you can easily develop and test the sites. This is a so-called mini-hosting. Almost all local servers are simple both in management and in configuration. After that, all changes are transferred to real web-hosting on the Internet.
